NEW YORK, New York, August 14, 2012 – Mesothelioma patients, doctors, and others interested in the rare asbestos-related cancer will come together on September 28, 2012, for a unique conference in New York City. About 3,000 patients are diagnosed with mesothelioma each year in the United States. The one-day conference is organized by the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (MARF), the leading non-profit seeking a cure for mesothelioma. Dr. Lee Krug, an oncologist at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center who specializes in the treatment of mesothelioma, made the announcement regarding the New York City conference last month during his presentation at MARF’s International Mesothelioma Symposium. “We are going to have the first-ever New York City mesothelioma conference. This is something that we dreamed about and we were fortunate enough to get funding from LK to put together this meeting,” announced Dr. Krug.
Levy Konigsberg LLP (LK) is a law firm that has represented mesothelioma patients in courts nationwide for nearly 30 years. LK has made significant annual donations to MARF and made a separate donation this year to make the New York City conference a reality. “With many of the leading doctors treating and researching mesothelioma located in New York City, we believe that the patient and medical community will truly benefit from the conference. We want to help cure this disease,” said Jerome H. Block, an LK partner, and trial attorney.
The cost of attending the conference entitled “Malignant Mesothelioma: Knowledge is Hope” is only $25 and coincides with the annual gathering at the Today Show at Rockefeller Center which will occur in the hours before the conference. The conference brings together an all-star lineup of mesothelioma experts including Dr. Krug, Dr. Harvey Pass, Dr. Kenneth Rosensweig, Dr. Marc Ladanyi, Dr. Garrett Nash, Dr. Robert Taub, Nurse Mary Hesdorffer, Dr. Kathleen Weso, and Dr. Jacqueline Moline. Topics will include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, clinical trials, complementary therapies, and the risk of disease due to asbestos exposures. Robert I. Komitor, will present the legal aspects of mesothelioma based on his experience representing mesothelioma patients for nearly 30 years.
