NEW YORK, New York, August 20, 2012 – Top mesothelioma researchers from around the world will gather at the Seaport Hotel and World Trade Center in Boston, Massachusetts, from September 11-14, 2012, for the 11th International Conference of the International Mesothelioma Interest Group (“IMIG 2012”). IMIG is an independent group of international researchers and scientists that are working together to find better treatment options and ultimately a cure for mesothelioma. The group’s board members include researchers, doctors, and scientists from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, Finland, The Netherlands, France, Egypt, South Africa, and Italy.

The diverse membership highlights the international scope of the mesothelioma problem, the rare and incurable cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. IMIG has held its collaborative international conferences on mesothelioma every two years, giving participants the opportunity to report on the results of new treatments and research for mesothelioma. The conference agenda will include topics such as immunology, immunotherapy, imaging, pathology, surgery, and discussions regarding biological data and animal research data. This year’s local conference chairs are Drs. David Sugarbaker and Raphael Bueno of Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA.

Levy Konigsberg LLP (“LK”), a law firm that has represented mesothelioma patients for over 25 years, has donated money to support this conference.

Dr. Daniel Sterman, an IMIG Board Member and Director of Interventional Pulmonology and Clinical Director of the Thoracic Oncology Gene Therapy Program at The Penn Lung Center at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, thanked LK for its “ongoing support of research for better treatments for this horrible disease.”

“We are proud to support the IMIG conference in Boston. It is exciting to see so many of the world’s top mesothelioma researchers gather in one place to share ideas and hopefully help cure this disease,” said Jerome H. Block, partner and trial lawyer with LK.

Unfortunately, government funding for mesothelioma research is very small as compared to more well-known diseases such as breast cancer and lung cancer. This is why it is so important for law firms, such as LK, to step up to the plate and donate money for mesothelioma research.

LK is proud of its support of mesothelioma research and proud of the legal help that it provides to mesothelioma patients. LK has won some of the largest verdicts and settlements in the country for its clients. The firm has represented clients living throughout the country: in states such as New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Florida, California, Arizona, Nevada, Washington, Michigan, Ohio, Delaware, and more. LK features numerous lawyers selected in the Best Lawyers in America publication. For IMIG conference details, go to www.imig2012.org.
