LAS VEGAS, Nevada, March 7, 2013 – Today at the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (“MARF”) annual conference in Las Vegas, Bob Komitor shared mesothelioma legal information with families affected by the rare cancer caused by asbestos exposure. Mr. Komitor, a partner with the national mesothelioma law firm of Levy Konigsberg LLP (“LK”) has been representing victims of mesothelioma for more than 25 years. He has been recognized as one of the “Best Lawyers in America” by U.S. News & World Report for his work in asbestos litigation.
The mesothelioma legal panel featuring Mr. Komitor and several other asbestos lawyers gave families attending the mesothelioma conference the opportunity to ask Mr. Komitor questions about asbestos claims. The topics of discussion included time deadlines for filing claims (statute of limitations), bankruptcy claims, civil lawsuits, and the identification of sources of asbestos exposure through case investigation. The importance of discussing mesothelioma legal information with patients has been recognized as important by medical doctors, including the authors of a recently published article entitled: “Missed opportunities to counsel patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma about causation and possible compensation”, Am J Med Sci 2012 Mar; 343(3): 206-9.
The legal panel was part of a larger three day conference that included presentations from mesothelioma medical experts, including Dr. Lee Krug of Memorial Sloan Kettering, Dr. Joseph Testa of the Fox Chase Cancer Center, and Mary Hesdorffer, NP, the Executive Director of the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation. The scientific and medical information included: new treatments, the genetics of mesothelioma, as well as new mesothelioma research findings. MARF is the largest non-profit seeking a cure for mesothelioma through research grants that are allocated by an independent scientific advisory board.
Mr. Komitor has been actively involved in supporting the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation since the group’s formation. Mr. Komitor said, “Mesothelioma continues to take the lives of thousands of people every year in the United States. These deaths could have been prevented if companies who made and sold asbestos-containing products would have adequately warned about the hazards of asbestos. I am proud to support the Meso Foundation and its mission of eradicating mesothelioma and to ease the suffering of patient’s and family members.”
Mr. Komitor’s firm, LK, is a platinum-level sponsor of MARF and will host the organizations 2nd Annual New York City Mesothelioma Conference this fall. The New York City Conference will coincide with the annual gathering for Mesothelioma Awareness Day at the Today Show at Rockefeller Center.
LK has been helping families affected by mesothelioma for more than three decades. The firm was recently named 2013 Plaintiff Law Firm of the Year by U.S. News & World Report in the area of Products Liability.

Under the law of most states, pain and suffering from mesothelioma may be compensated through the award of money damages, usually obtained with the help of experienced mesothelioma attorneys. In some states other types of damages may also be recovered.
Asbestos litigation affords mesothelioma victims the opportunity to receive financial compensation and hold accountable the companies that caused their asbestos exposure.
- Preserve your rights to bring a legal action against the responsible parties within the limited time frame allowed by law, known as statute of limitations;
- Obtain maximum compensation in your case by being able to:
- Preserve evidence and establish facts of the asbestos exposure while the claimant is still alive and able to provide information;
- File and resolve a lawsuit against the responsible parties before they file for bankruptcy or, if they already have, to obtain compensation before their bankruptcy trust funds run out of money;
- Expedite your case, as courts tend to give higher priority to mesothelioma lawsuits where the claimant is still alive.
